Welcome to the MHS Kids for a Cure donation page!
Please join us at Palmer's Crossing Restaurant on June 24th for a benefit dinner to support diabetes research. If you are unable to join us, please consider donating to our cause instead.
MHS Kids for a Cure is a club that devotes its time to fundraising for specific research conducted by Dr. Denise Faustman of Mass General Hospital, called the Faustman Lab. The lab is moving into Phase II of critical research in finding a cure for Type I Diabetes.
I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when I was eight years old.
Type I Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body's own immune system destroys the cells that produce insulin. Rarer than Type II Diabetes, Type I is more severe, and accounts for approximately 10 - 15 % of cases worldwide.
There is currently no cure or preventative measure for Type I Diabetes. Patients are dependent for the rest of their lives on regular injections of insulin to control their blood sugar levels.
