Helping Families with Basic Needs
More than 20,000 children in Massachusetts will experience homelessness this year. Just a few years ago, Altia Taylor’s children were part of that statistic. Altia faced a financial crisis when her mother, father and brother all passed away in a short timeframe. Struggling to pay for their funeral costs, Altia found herself unable to pay her rent.
Soon, she and her two young children were without a home, relying on emergency shelters and temporary housing. When Altia connected with United Way-funded agency Homes for Families, she was able to obtain permanent housing for her family. Today, Altia continues to use resources such as United Way’s 2-1-1 helpline to connect her with programs that give her family the tools to thrive.
Please watch this video to hear how United Way is helping families like Altia’s obtain shelter, food and financial stability and how your giving helps to provide resources for those most in need.
